Järkytys/ a shock

Me muutimme uuteen kotiimme tammikuun lopulla.

We moved to our new home in January. It took a couple of weeks before someone wrote bad things on our storage closets door downstairs in the cellar. Around midnight on monday I got the letter that's on the pisture above. It was dropped from the letterbox.
I was ( and still am) shocked and sad.

As you may have noticed reading this blog that I'm at the moment still at home with my youngest who's a year and three moths old. So I gather that makes me the socialbum they refer to in the letter.
I am not from China nor do I have any family origin there. I am half Finnish, my dad is Finnish and my mother is from Russia ( or to be precise she is from Kalmykia)  I've always considered myself as Finnish as I've lived pretty much all my life here. This is my mothertongue and my sultural idententy is mostly Finnish.

There are other people living in our building, yet none of them have experienced any rascist comments nor hatemail like this.  Is it so that it's easier to do something like this to a yourng woman and a single mother with kids..? I felt sick with anxiety for my kids sake when I read that letter. It's just horrible, no-one can no what that person might decide to do next. Some people don't care wether it's kids or grown ups. I did report all that's happened to the police but there's nothing they can do. I also informed the hous board in our building but they seem unwilling to take a stand and do anything.
The only geed thing that has come out of this is that I'll make this my mission. To talk about racism in Finland with people, show the that letter and hopefully make people understand that these things really happen and that we need to have open discussion about this and hopefully someday things will get better. And well I live in Helsinki with the kids in a really nice and decent neighbourhood that's got a good reputation for being liberal and trendy even. So if this is how thigs can be like in the biggest and most multicultural city in Finnland well it leaves it to be speculated what can it be elsewhere in Finnland.

  2. Voi Mona.
Kiitos kommentistasi.
